complications
Complications are a series of problems or difficulties that make up the main action of a piece of literature.
Pygmalion Example: One complication in Pygmalion was Eliza’s inability to say refined things at first. For example, when she goes to visit Mrs. Higgins and uses cockney slang. She pronounced everything correctly, but what she said was not refined to a lady’s standards. This ruined her image as high class and Higgins had to fix this complication in order to achieve her full transformation. |
