simile
A simile is a figure of speech that makes a comparison, showing similarities between two different things. A simile draws resemblance with the help of the words “like” or “as”. Therefore, it is a direct comparison.
Pygmalion Example: In act four, Higgins expresses that “(he) felt like a bear in a cage” during the dinner party. Higgins uses this simile to inform Pickering that he was overly excited and could not express it. The use of the word like creates a direct comparison between Higgins and a bear in a cage. |
